At 650 you are at the door of the mainstream. Chase Freedom Unlimited, Capital One Quicksilver and SavorOne, Citi Double Cash and Discover it Cash Back all approve many applicants in the upper 600s, and they are genuinely good cards — no-fee, real rewards, intro 0% offers. This ranking orders them by net value and by how forgiving each issuer's approval is at this score.
Capital One and Discover approve more readily in the fair-to-good band than Chase or Amex. Chase's Freedom cards are possible with a clean recent history and a Chase checking relationship. Amex and Citi premium cards are still out of reach; their no-fee cards are borderline.
The gap from 650 to 700 is usually utilisation and age. Keep balances under 10% of limits, let the account age six to twelve months, and avoid more than one application in that time. At 700 the transferable-points travel cards open up.
Yes. Capital One Quicksilver and SavorOne, Discover it Cash Back and Citi Double Cash approve many applicants around 650 and pay 1.5%–5% back with no annual fee.
Sometimes. Chase Freedom Unlimited and Freedom Rise are approved for some applicants in the upper 600s, especially existing Chase customers with no recent missed payments. Sapphire cards generally require 700+.
It sits at the top of FICO's "fair" band (580–669). Most no-fee cards are available; premium and travel cards usually need 700 or more.
