How to choose: Credit Cards in the UAE

In the UAE the first filter is salary: banks publish a minimum monthly salary for each card, from AED 5,000 for entry cards to AED 25,000+ for Infinite tiers, and often require a salary transfer. Our UAE rankings group cards by band and then score them on cashback or miles, lounge access and the fee after the usual first-year waiver.

The UAE rankings at a glance

  • Cashback — Mashreq Cashback, FAB Cashback and Emirates Islamic Cashback Plus lead for everyday spend.
  • Airline miles — Emirates NBD Skywards Signature for Emirates flyers; Etihad Guest cards from ADCB.
  • Premium and lounges — ADCB TouchPoints Infinite (unlimited lounge access), Mashreq Solitaire (12 visits a year) and other Infinite-tier cards.
  • Islamic — Emirates Islamic and ADIB cards structured on Murabaha or Ujrah with no interest.

What to check before applying in the UAE

The minimum salary and whether a salary transfer is required; the AECB credit score (300–900, with 700+ typically needed for premium cards); the annual fee after year one; the 2%–3% foreign currency fee; and cashback caps, which are often low. Many cards waive the fee permanently if you spend above a threshold — worth asking.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best credit card in the UAE?

For cashback, Mashreq Cashback or FAB Cashback; for Emirates flyers, Emirates NBD Skywards Signature; for lounge access and premium perks, Mashreq Solitaire. Your salary band decides which tier you can apply for.

What salary do I need for a credit card in the UAE?

Entry cards start at AED 5,000 a month; Platinum cards typically AED 8,000–15,000; Infinite and Signature tiers AED 20,000–25,000 or more. Some banks require salary transfer.

Are UAE credit cards free?

Most waive the annual fee in the first year and many waive it permanently if you spend above a threshold. Check the fee from year two before choosing.
