SBI Card PRIME
Best for: spenders who can use a ₹3,000 welcome voucher, quarterly and annual milestones, and domestic and Priority Pass lounges.
Why it ranks
- The welcome voucher matches the annual fee
- Quarterly and annual milestones add value
- International lounge access through Priority Pass
What holds it back
- Base rate of 2 points per ₹100 is low
- Voucher value depends on using the partner brands

Why the SBI Card PRIME ranks where it does
SBI Card PRIME is a fee-for-perks card that makes sense only if you use the voucher partners. It charges ₹2,999 plus taxes and returns a ₹3,000 e-gift voucher from brands including Yatra, Bata or Hush Puppies, Pantaloons, Aditya Birla Fashion and Shoppers Stop, so year one is roughly free. From year two the fee is waived on ₹3 lakh of annual spend.
Earning is uneven. Dining, departmental stores, groceries and movies earn 10 Reward Points per ₹100, utility standing instructions 20 per ₹100 on the first 3,000 points a month, and everything else only 2 per ₹100. Milestones carry most of the value: a ₹1,000 Pizza Hut voucher for each quarter with ₹50,000 of spend and a ₹7,000 Yatra or Pantaloons voucher on ₹5 lakh a year.
The travel perks are real. Eight domestic lounge visits a year and a Priority Pass with four international visits, up to two a quarter, are more than most cards at this price include, along with a year of Club ITC Silver Tier. The 3.5% forex markup takes some shine off the international side. PRIME fits families spending ₹5 lakh a year who will actually redeem the vouchers.
Good fit if
- Families spending ₹5 lakh a year who can reach the annual milestone
- People who shop at the voucher brands, such as Pantaloons and Shoppers Stop
- Travellers who want Priority Pass visits at a mid-range fee
Skip it if
- Anyone who would not use the partner vouchers
- People whose spending falls mostly outside dining, groceries and departmental stores
Assume ₹5 lakh of spend in a year: ₹2 lakh on dining, groceries and departmental stores and ₹3 lakh on other retail, spread so that each quarter passes ₹50,000. Points: 2,00,000 × 10 ÷ 100 = 20,000, plus 3,00,000 × 2 ÷ 100 = 6,000, so 26,000. At ₹0.25 a point, the value SBI Card puts on points on its OCTANE card, that is ₹6,500. Add four ₹1,000 Pizza Hut vouchers and the ₹7,000 milestone voucher for ₹17,500, with the renewal fee waived.
How it stacks up
The SBI Card ELITE is the step up, with a larger welcome voucher and movie benefits for a ₹4,999 fee. The Axis Horizon costs about the same as PRIME and offers more lounge visits without any spend condition, but no welcome voucher and no spend-based waiver. PRIME remains the better choice for people who value vouchers over travel. PRIME is the middle option in SBI's range.
SBI Card PRIME charges ₹2,999 a year and returns a ₹3,000 welcome voucher, 10 Reward Points per ₹100 on dining, groceries, departmental stores and movies, and milestone vouchers. It includes domestic lounge access under SBI Card's Set B list and 4 Priority Pass visits a year.
