Our verdict

Why the Kotak League Platinum Credit Card ranks where it does

The Kotak League Platinum is a low-fee card that works only for people who hit its half-yearly milestone. On ₹1.25 lakh of spend in each six-month period it gives either four PVR tickets or 10,000 Reward Points, and Kotak values 5,000 points at ₹500, so the points option is worth ₹1,000 each time. Without the milestone the card earns little: 4 points per ₹150 on most spends and 8 on special categories, roughly 0.27% to 0.53% at that valuation.

The fee is ₹499, waived on ₹50,000 of retail spend a year, and a nil-fee variant is also listed. The welcome benefit is 5,000 points, worth ₹500, paid after the fee on the fee variant. Everything else is modest: a fuel surcharge waiver up to ₹3,500 a year, a railway surcharge waiver up to ₹500, no lounge access and a 3.5% forex markup.

Eligibility narrows the audience further, with ₹5 lakh of annual income required and availability in only 10 cities. For a moviegoer in one of those cities spending about ₹21,000 a month, the four PVR tickets twice a year are the reason to hold it.

Good fit if

  • Regular PVR moviegoers in Kotak's 10 cities
  • People spending about ₹21,000 a month who can hit the half-yearly milestone
  • Anyone wanting a low fee that is easy to waive

Skip it if

  • People outside the 10 cities where the card is offered
  • Anyone seeking a strong everyday reward rate or lounge access
Worked example

Assume ₹2.5 lakh of spend in a year, ₹1.25 lakh in each half. Base earning at 4 points per ₹150 gives 2,50,000 ÷ 150 × 4 = 6,667 points, and both half-yearly milestones add 10,000 each, for 26,667 points. At Kotak's valuation of 5,000 points for ₹500, or ₹0.10 each, that is about ₹2,667. The fee is waived because retail spend exceeds ₹50,000. Choosing PVR tickets instead of points adds value only if you would pay for those films anyway.

How it stacks up

The SBI SimplySAVE has a similar low fee and rewards dining, groceries, movies and department stores at 10 points per ₹150 without any milestone. For moviegoers who also want travel benefits, the SBI Card PRIME costs more but adds lounge access and quarterly vouchers. The Kotak card wins only if PVR tickets are the benefit you want most. Few other cards in our Indian list tie most of their value to cinema tickets.

The Kotak League Platinum Credit Card is a low-fee rewards card whose main value is a half-yearly milestone: 4 PVR tickets or 10,000 points on ₹1.25 lakh spend. The ₹499 fee is waived on ₹50,000 annual retail spend.
