Why the Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank Credit Card ranks where it does
The Tata Neu Infinity HDFC card is excellent inside the Tata ecosystem and ordinary outside it. It returns 5% as NeuCoins on Tata Neu and partner Tata brands, with a further 5% on selected Tata Neu categories for NeuPass members, and 1.5% on other eligible spends. The RuPay variant also earns up to 1.5% on UPI, capped at 500 NeuCoins a month.
The fee is ₹1,499 plus GST, returned as 1,499 NeuCoins on the first transaction within 30 days of issuance, and the renewal fee is waived on ₹3 lakh of annual spend. The catch is that NeuCoins are useful only on Tata Neu and partner brands, so the 1.5% base rate is worth 1.5% only if you already buy there. Grocery, utility and UPI earnings are also capped.
The travel side has weakened. Domestic lounge vouchers now need ₹50,000 of spend in a calendar quarter, two vouchers per qualifying quarter, while four international visits a year remain. The 3.5% forex markup rules it out as a travel card. It suits households that already run a large share of spending through Tata apps and stores and can clear ₹3 lakh a year.
Good fit if
- Households that buy regularly on Tata Neu and partner Tata brands
- RuPay users who want NeuCoins on UPI spends
- People spending ₹3 lakh or more a year who can waive the fee
Skip it if
- Anyone who does not use Tata Neu, since NeuCoins have little use elsewhere
- Frequent international travellers, given the 3.5% forex markup
Assume ₹10,000 a month on Tata Neu and partner Tata brands and ₹20,000 on other eligible spends. Tata spends earn 5%, or 500 NeuCoins a month, and other spends 1.5%, or 300. That is 800 NeuCoins a month, 9,600 a year. Annual spend of ₹3.6 lakh waives the ₹1,499 renewal fee. Because HDFC quotes these rates as a percentage back, we treat the coins at face value, but only if you spend them on Tata Neu or partner brands; otherwise their real value to you is lower.
How it stacks up
The HSBC Live+ card pays 10% on dining, food delivery, grocery, shopping and utilities up to ₹1,200 a month and 1.5% elsewhere as plain cashback, with a lower 1.99% forex markup and a ₹999 fee. The Swiggy HDFC Bank card suits food-delivery households better at ₹500 a year, with cashback credited to the statement. Tata Neu Infinity only leads when Tata brands take a large share of the budget.
The Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank Credit Card returns 5% as NeuCoins on Tata Neu and partner Tata brands and 1.5% on most other spends. The ₹1,499 fee is waived on ₹3 lakh annual spend, and domestic lounge access is now spend-based.
