Why the Axis Bank Atlas Credit Card ranks where it does
Atlas is a sensible miles card for people who book flights and hotels directly and spend enough to climb its tiers. It earns 5 EDGE Miles per ₹100 on Axis Travel EDGE, airline and hotel spends up to ₹2 lakh a month, and 2 per ₹100 on other eligible spends. Axis values EDGE Miles at ₹1 on its Horizon card, so the base rate is 2% and the travel rate 5% before any transfer to partners.
The fee is ₹5,000 plus GST, and part of it comes back in miles as you move up. Milestones add 2,500 miles at ₹3 lakh, another 2,500 at ₹7.5 lakh and 5,000 more at ₹15 lakh, and Gold and Platinum tiers receive 2,500 or 5,000 miles when the fee is paid. Transfers are capped at 1.5 lakh miles a year, only 30,000 of them to the Group A partners.
The weaknesses are the exclusions and the cuts. Rent, wallets, insurance, fuel, utilities, government payments and jewellery earn nothing, and Axis dropped the concierge and airport transfers in 2024. At ₹3 lakh a year or more of mixed spending the card clearly covers its fee; below that it struggles.
Good fit if
- Travellers who book airlines and hotels directly or through Travel EDGE
- People spending ₹3 lakh or more a year who will hit the milestones
- Miles collectors who transfer to Axis airline and hotel partners
Skip it if
- Anyone whose travel goes through aggregators, which do not earn the 5-mile rate
- Light spenders under ₹3 lakh a year
Assume ₹7.5 lakh of eligible spend in a year: ₹1.5 lakh on direct airline and hotel bookings and ₹6 lakh on other purchases. Travel earns 1,50,000 × 5 ÷ 100 = 7,500 miles and other spends 6,00,000 × 2 ÷ 100 = 12,000. The ₹3 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh milestones add 2,500 each, for 24,500 miles. At ₹1 a mile, the value Axis assigns to EDGE Miles and conservative because partner transfers can be worth more, that is ₹24,500 against a ₹5,000 fee plus GST.
How it stacks up
The Axis Horizon earns the same 5 and 2 EDGE Miles per ₹100 on Travel EDGE and airline spends for ₹3,000, and its lounge access has no spend condition, but it lacks Atlas's tiered milestones. The Scapia Federal card is lifetime free with zero forex markup, a better choice for people who spend abroad but book travel only occasionally. Atlas sits between them on cost and on reward.
