The best credit card for online shopping in India depends on where you shop. Amazon Pay ICICI is best for Amazon (5% for Prime members, lifetime free), Flipkart Axis or Flipkart SBI for Flipkart and Myntra (5% and 7.5%), and the Cashback SBI Card for everything else, at 5% online up to ₹2,000 a statement. For many shoppers a single well-chosen card earns almost as much as three, as the worked example below shows. Rates and caps are as of September 2026.
Which credit card is best for online shopping in India?
| Card | Annual fee | Key benefit | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon Pay ICICI | ₹0 | 5% on Amazon for Prime members (3% otherwise), 2% at Amazon Pay partners, 1% elsewhere; 1.99% forex | Amazon shoppers |
| Flipkart Axis Bank | ₹500 + GST, waived on ₹3.5 lakh | 7.5% Myntra, 5% Flipkart and Cleartrip (each capped at ₹4,000 a quarter), 4% preferred merchants | Flipkart and Myntra regulars |
| Flipkart SBI Card | ₹500 + GST, waived on ₹3.5 lakh | 7.5% Myntra, 5% Flipkart including Shopsy, 5% Cleartrip, 4% select merchants (each ₹4,000 a quarter) | Flipkart shoppers who bank with SBI |
| Cashback SBI Card | ₹999 + GST, waived on ₹2 lakh | 5% on most online spends, capped at ₹2,000 a statement | Shopping across many sites |
| HDFC Millennia | ₹1,000 + GST, waived on ₹1 lakh | 5% on 10 partners including Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Swiggy and Zomato; 1% elsewhere | One card for several big apps |
| SBI SimplyCLICK | ₹499 + GST, waived on ₹1 lakh | 10X points at partners such as Myntra and Cleartrip, 5X on other online spends | Low-fee starter card |
| Swiggy HDFC Bank | ₹500 + GST, waived on ₹2 lakh | 10% on Swiggy, Instamart and Dineout (₹1,500 a cycle), 5% on selected online categories | Food delivery and quick commerce |
| Tata Neu Infinity HDFC | ₹1,499 + GST, waived on ₹3 lakh | 5% in NeuCoins on Tata brands, 1.5% elsewhere | Tata Neu app users |
Best credit card for Amazon
The Amazon Pay ICICI card has no joining or annual fee. Prime members earn 5% back on Amazon, non-Prime members 3%, and everyone earns 2% at Amazon Pay partner merchants and 1% elsewhere. After the partnership was renewed in September 2025, ICICI cut the forex markup from 3.5% to 1.99% from 11 October 2025, which makes it useful on international sites too. The catch: ICICI lists a minimum income of ₹30,000 a month and describes the card as an invite-only programme, so check the Amazon or ICICI app for an offer.
Best credit card for Flipkart and Myntra
Two cards now share almost the same structure. The Flipkart Axis Bank card gives 7.5% on Myntra, 5% on Flipkart and 5% on Cleartrip, each capped at ₹4,000 of cashback per statement quarter, 4% on preferred merchants such as Swiggy food delivery, and 1% elsewhere. Axis added the Myntra rate and the quarterly caps in June 2025 and removed the card's domestic lounge visits at the same time. The Flipkart SBI Card offers the same 7.5%, 5% and 4% rates with ₹4,000 quarterly caps, and counts Shopsy and Flipkart Travel as Flipkart.
The quarterly caps are generous: ₹4,000 at 5% covers ₹80,000 of Flipkart spending a quarter. Choose between the two based on which bank you already use, since the fee (₹500 plus GST, waived on ₹3.5 lakh) and rates match. Both exclude fuel, rent, wallets, insurance, education, jewellery and EMI transactions from cashback.
Best card if you shop on many different sites
The Cashback SBI Card pays 5% on almost any online merchant, which is rare in India. From 1 April 2026 SBI Card caps the online cashback at ₹2,000 per statement cycle, caps offline cashback (1%) at ₹2,000, and caps the total at ₹4,000. The ₹2,000 cap means 5% applies to the first ₹40,000 of online spend each cycle, more than most households spend. Utilities, insurance, fuel, rent, wallets, education, jewellery, railways and merchant EMIs earn nothing, and from April 2026 gaming, tolls and government payments were added to the list. Cashback is credited within two working days of your statement and does not expire.
The HDFC Millennia takes a different route: 5% at ten named partners (Amazon, BookMyShow, Cult.fit, Flipkart, Myntra, Sony LIV, Swiggy, Tata CLiQ, Uber and Zomato) and 1% elsewhere, for ₹1,000 plus GST, waived on ₹1 lakh. Redemption against your statement is capped at 3,000 cashback points a month. Best low-fee card for online shopping: SBI SimplyCLICK
SBI SimplyCLICK costs ₹499 plus GST, waived on ₹1 lakh a year, and SBI Card sends a ₹500 Amazon voucher once the fee is paid. It earns 10X points at exclusive partners, which in SBI Card's April 2025 notice were Apollo 24X7, BookMyShow, Cleartrip, Dominos, IGP, Myntra, Netmeds and Yatra, and 5X on other online spending, each capped at 10,000 bonus points a month. Amazon and Swiggy were moved from 10X to 5X. Spend ₹1 lakh online in a card year and you get a ₹2,000 Cleartrip or Yatra e-voucher, with another at ₹2 lakh. Wallet loads, rent and government payments earn no bonus points.
Best credit card for food delivery and quick commerce
If Swiggy and Instamart take a big share of your spending, the Swiggy HDFC Bank card pays 10% on Swiggy food, Instamart, Dineout and Genie, capped at ₹1,500 per billing cycle, plus 5% on selected online categories (also ₹1,500) and 1% elsewhere (₹500). Since June 2024 the cashback comes as a statement credit. HSBC's Live+ card pays 10% on dining, food delivery and groceries, up to ₹1,200 a month on HSBC's product page, but it is available only in select cities. Axis ACE pays 4% on Swiggy and Zomato within a shared ₹500 cap per statement.
Best card for Tata Neu shoppers
If you buy through the Tata Neu app, the Tata Neu Infinity HDFC card pays 5% in NeuCoins on partner Tata brands and 1.5% on other spends, for ₹1,499 plus GST, waived on ₹3 lakh. UPI payments earn 0.5%, plus an extra 1% through the Tata Neu UPI ID, capped at 500 NeuCoins a month. From August 2025 NeuCoins expire after 12 months, so the card suits people who spend on Tata brands regularly. The cheaper Tata Neu Plus (₹499 plus GST, waived on ₹1 lakh) pays 2% on Tata brands and 1% elsewhere.
Worked example: one card or three?
Assume each month you spend ₹4,000 on Amazon (with Prime), ₹2,000 on Flipkart, ₹1,000 on Myntra and ₹5,000 on other shopping sites, and that you do not reach any fee waiver. Fees include 18% GST.
- Three cards (Amazon Pay ICICI for Amazon, Flipkart Axis for Flipkart and Myntra, Cashback SBI for the rest): ₹200 + ₹100 + ₹75 + ₹250 = ₹625 a month, or ₹7,500 a year. Fees: ₹0 + ₹590 + ₹1,179 = ₹1,769. Net: about ₹5,731.
- Cashback SBI alone: 5% of ₹12,000 = ₹600 a month, well within the ₹2,000 cap, or ₹7,200 a year. Fee: ₹1,179. Net: about ₹6,021.
- Amazon Pay ICICI plus Cashback SBI: ₹200 on Amazon plus 5% of ₹8,000 (₹400) = ₹600 a month, ₹7,200 a year, and the same ₹1,179 in fees. Net: about ₹6,021, with 1.99% forex available on the Amazon card.
The lesson: 5% on Flipkart or Amazon is the same 5% the Cashback SBI Card already pays, so extra cards add value mainly through Myntra's 7.5%, a missed fee waiver being avoided, or spending above the SBI cap. If you prefer no fee at all, Amazon Pay ICICI alone is the zero-cost option, but you give up 4% on non-Amazon sites.
Sale season: bank offers, EMI and what you lose
- Instant discounts are separate from card rewards. Bank offers during sales change every event and are announced by the retailer; your normal cashback may or may not stack, so check the offer terms.
- Converting a purchase to EMI often forfeits cashback. The Cashback SBI Card excludes merchant EMI and Flexipay, Flipkart cards exclude EMI, and HDFC Millennia earns nothing on Easy EMI.
- Wallet loads rarely count. Loading Amazon Pay or other wallets is excluded on most cards and can attract a 1% fee above set limits at HDFC, Axis and SBI Card.
How to choose your online shopping card
- Add up three months of online spending by platform from your statements or order histories.
- If one platform dominates, start with its co-branded card, especially if it is free, such as Amazon Pay ICICI.
- If spending is spread out, start with the Cashback SBI Card and check whether you will clear the ₹2 lakh fee waiver.
- Add a second card only if the math shows a gain after fees with GST.
- Pay the full statement every month. Interest at around 3.75% a month cancels any cashback within weeks.

Frequently asked questions
Which credit card gives the most cashback on Amazon?
The Amazon Pay ICICI card gives 5% back on Amazon for Prime members and 3% for others, with no annual fee. HDFC Millennia and the Cashback SBI Card also pay 5% on Amazon, but they charge fees and have caps. As of September 2026, ICICI describes the Amazon card as invite-only, so check the Amazon or ICICI app for an offer.
Is the Cashback SBI Card still worth it after the 2026 cap?
Yes, for most people. From 1 April 2026 the 5% online cashback is capped at ₹2,000 per statement, which still covers ₹40,000 of online spending each cycle. The ₹999 plus GST fee is waived if you spend ₹2 lakh in a year. It is less useful if much of your spending is on excluded categories like utilities, rent or fuel.
Flipkart Axis or Flipkart SBI: which is better?
They are almost identical as of September 2026: 7.5% on Myntra, 5% on Flipkart and Cleartrip, 4% on select merchants, each capped at ₹4,000 a quarter, and a ₹500 plus GST fee waived on ₹3.5 lakh. The Flipkart SBI Card also counts Shopsy and Flipkart Travel. Pick the one from the bank you already use.
Do I get cashback if I convert a purchase to EMI?
Usually not. The Cashback SBI Card excludes merchant EMI and Flexipay, Flipkart cards exclude EMI transactions, and HDFC Millennia earns nothing on Easy EMI. If you want the cashback, pay in full and budget for the purchase. If you need EMI, compare the processing fee and interest against the cashback you are giving up.
Which card is best for shopping on international websites?
Look at the forex markup, not just the cashback. Amazon Pay ICICI charges 1.99% from October 2025, while most Indian shopping cards charge 3.5% plus GST on the markup. For regular overseas purchases, a zero forex card is cheaper. Our guide to zero forex markup cards in India compares the current options.
